The grief-stricken mother becomes so attached to the doll she hires a mysterious nanny to care for it. Go on adventures with Circle, Triangle and Square in this stop-motion animation adaptation of the children’s book series by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. The Shapes aren’t all the same, but they learn how best to work together. Unfortunately for fans of the series, Dear Edward has been cancelled and will not return for a second season. Billy Crudup stars as salesman Jack in this retro-future sci-fi series, in which Jack and a cohort of others are trying to find homebuyers for promised lunar timeshares. But everything is not as it first seems and Jack’s headstrong ambition and charisma masks a darker truth. He has a supportive dad to five puppies, and husband to wife Greta. In this animated series, follow Pretzel and his family as they try to make the world a better place. This documentary series explores the world of wrestling through the lens of the Monster Factory, a training school in New Jersey led by a tough-yet-caring coach Danny Cage. As a former wrestler himself, Cage is motivated to help the new recruits achieve their dreams of going pro. Based on the book series ‘Owl Diaries’, Eva the Owlet is a beautifully animated childrens series.

It feels like a show with some good ideas that got buried under a sloppy execution. I want more from Star Wars but I’m learning to live with disappointment. House of the Dragon Season 2 — Sundays on HBO/Max — The second season of the Game of Thrones spinoff has been absolutely phenomenal, with some amazing dragon battles and that great Shakesperean drama that made Season 1 so powerful and unique. One or more episodes from the following television programs were edited together for release as a feature film. Some television films have functioned as pilots or backdoor pilots for a subsequent TV series, but most of them start off as the first regular episode of a series overall. Based on David Nicholls’ 2009 novel of the same name, this limited series charts the lives of Emma (Ambika Mod) and Dexter (Leo Woodall) over the course of 20 years. Starting with their graduation from Edinburgh University in 1988, each episode jumps forward one year at a time, revisiting them for a single day and exploring how their existences swirl around each other, even as fate seems to drag them apart. It’s all gorgeously shot and produced, each half-hour episode a time capsule of its period, while the sizzling chemistry between the leads keeps you rooting for them even when you begin to suspect they’re not meant for each other. Picking up with Olympus in disarray following a godly coup and the fate of the cosmos at stake, Heron is sent on a decidedly more personal quest to rescue—and possibly redeem—his estranged brother. Blood of Zeus continues to impress with smart twists on classic stories (its take on the relationship between Persephone and Hades being a particular highlight) and fantastic animation. Let’s just hope it’s not another four years until the next season. On the surface, The Sandman spinoff Dead Boy Detectives seems ludicrous, but its breezy pace and bounty of weird ideas (including a Cat King, a walrus cursed to live as a human, and a demon named David) keep things interesting. A palate-cleansing crowd pleaser to fill the gap before The Sandman itself returns. Struggling father Andre (Eric Kofi-Abrefa) develops superstrength, nurse Sabrina (Nadine Mills) unleashes phenomenal telekinetic might, drug dealer Rodney (Calvin Demba) races at superspeed, and wannabe gang leader Tazer (Josh Tedeku) turns invisible.

I still highly recommend the series, mostly because I love the characters and it’s a really fascinating glimpse into policing a very culturally divided city with a history of paramilitary violence. I loved the original Kung Fu Panda starring Jack Black as Po, the titular martial arts and noodle master (though he was far from a master back then). I haven’t really kept up with the series, but the fourth film scored pretty well with critics and audiences loved it and now it’s on Peacock. That’s not ideal—Peacock is perhaps my least favorite streaming service, but it does have some excellent content. Still, if you’re looking for a perfect movie for the whole family and don’t want to head to theaters, this is a good option. One of Hollywood’s brightest (and more challenging) stars gets the documentary treatment her award-winning, decades-spanning career deserves, from director-producer Laurent Bouzereau (Five Came Back). Friends and colleagues including Sharon Stone, 66, and Mickey Rourke, 71, along with her son, Liam Dunaway O’Neill, add color and detail to the HBO Original Documentary. Crowe and McAdams play reporters for the fictional Washington Globe newspaper who attempt to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of a congressman’s (Affleck) aide and mistress. Many Smithsonian museums are also featured, including the National Museum of Natural History, the National Air and Space Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. In addition to playing in some movie theatres, WW84 was also released on HBO Max on Christmas Day 2020 and became the most streamed title of the year. A prime example of not judging ideas before you see them realised, alarm bells rang when it was announced that someone was going to make a TV series based on the Coen brothers’ crime classic.

Apple TV+ has confirmed that Drops of God is renewed and will return for a second season. Samantha, an NYU student, is shot in Central Park on July 4th, 2003. As the mystery of the show unfolds, It turns out the truth of her apparent murder is connected to a series of fires that have been started across New York. The infamous poltergeist case is explored in this docuseries with dramatic recreations that use the original audio recordings of the events in question. Subject Janet Hodgson is interviewed and reflects on the long-lasting consequences of the investigation. From the makers of ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘The Pacific’, Masters of the Air follows the 100th Bomb Group in a nine-part epic battle for the skies. With vast scope and meticulous attention to detail, the series captures all of the triumphs and horrors of the World War II daylight bombings raids. A three-part investigation into the notorious ‘Con Queen’, who impersonated female executives in Hollywood to ensnare victims into false promises of tantalizing career opportunities. The perpetrator was eventually tracked down by a team of private investigators and the FBI. Unusually, the scam was motivated more by the thrills of dominance and control, than money. Based on the popular children’s books by Arnold Lobel, this cartoon centers on two best friends, Frog and Toad. The show explores friendship in all its forms, and how we should all embrace what makes us different and unique. Be aware, the web experience at tv.apple.com is a bit barebonds compared to the native TV app on devices, and it only shows Apple original content. For the best experience, use the TV app on a device like Apple TV 4K. Apple TV+ offers original comedies, dramas, thrillers, documentaries, and kids shows. A starburst of fantastically inventive offence, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s crude animation combined grotesque hilarity with a deceptively serious purpose. South Park was both a gleeful dismantling of the American dream and a laser-guided exploration of the tender spots where freedom of speech and liberal sensitivities collide. As such, it has proved surprisingly prescient; many of America’s current cultural fault lines first became apparent here. None more noir but containing flashes of unexpected humour, this was one of the more impressive of the bleak dramas that flooded out of Scandinavia. The bridge of the title was the Øresund, which connected Sweden and Denmark and led to multinational cooperation on a murder enquiry.

While this latter day sequel to The Karate Kid films of the 1980s started life on YouTube Red (remember that?), it’s really come into its own since moving to Netflix. Picking up decades after Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence’s iconic fight at the end of the first movie, the debut season of Cobra Kai finds the tables turned, with Daniel living the charmed life while Johnny is washed up. Yet after defending his young neighbor Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) in a fight, Johnny finds new meaning by re-opening the eponymous karate dojo and guiding a new generation of students. As the series progresses, the stakes get higher—and frankly, increasingly, gloriously, ludicrous—as rival martial arts schools start cropping up all over California and alliances are forged and broken with alarming regularity. With a sixth and final season in the works, now is the perfect time to binge the first five. There followed murders, plane crashes, betrayals, ferocious set pieces, indelible dialogue (“I am the one who knocks!”) and meth – enormous quantities of meth. A fall like this in a character takes time to chronicle, and the Breaking Bad team stepped up to that, meticulously crafting each turn and shooting the show as though it were a cinematic offering. From claustrophobic crawlspaces to wide desert vistas, the show never looked less than amazing. At the beginning of the binge watch era, Breaking Bad made for some Class A, seriously addictive television. This week marks the season finale of the Disney Plus series The Acolyte, which stars Amandla Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, Lee Jung-jae and Dafne Keen. The series, part of the Star Wars universe, is set during the High Republic era, a time that predates the Star Wars films and the show is the only live-action series to have depict this era in Galactic history. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s faux doc may just be the most influential TV show of this millennium. Few shows have skewered white-collar working life so astutely – the performance appraisals, the staff training days, the quiz nights, the romance across the printers – or captured the way people actually talk so intuitively. For all its rep for cringe comedy, it also has a real feel for people. Often mischaracterised as a horrible boss, Brent is so much more than a silly dance, a tragicomic figure who just wants to be loved and admired by his team. The result is one of the greatest TV characters in one of the greatest TV shows. Blue Lights is one of my favorite relatively new UK police procedurals. I’ve seen the entire second season which is currently dropping episodes weekly on BritBox, and the Northern Ireland crime show is still quite good, though not as good as Season 1. Some of the story beats just feel way too rushed which makes them a bit too contrived, and none of it hits quite as hard as Season 1.

As the long-awaited second season leans further into its twisted Alice in Wonderland imagery, expect more shocking developments in this taut thriller. Arguably the most joyful show on Netflix is back for another school year of teen drama and heartfelt romance. With Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) now officially dating, this long-awaited second season starts off with Nick struggling to come out as bisexual—but it’s openly-gay Charlie’s parents who seem to struggle the most with their relationship. Meanwhile, Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao’s (William Gao) will-they-won’t-they saga continues to sizzle, and a school trip to Paris turns into a crucible for everyone’s emotions. The only thing stranger than the impossible crime itself is the conspiracy behind it, one that spans decades, impacting and linking every figure investigating the body. A brilliantly high-concept sci-fi crime drama, Bodies is one of the best one-and-done limited series to hit Netflix in years. Created by Guy Ritchie, and loosely following his 2019 film of the same name, this darkly comedic series follows Eddie Horniman (Theo James), a former British Army officer, after he inherits the family estate and title of Duke following his father’s death. Drawn into a literal criminal underground, Eddie finds himself having to deal with his family’s legacy, his only real support coming from Susie (Kaya Scodelario), who’s been running the drug empire. Consider it the antithesis of The Crown—or not far removed from it, depending on your stance on the British Monarchy. Based on the comic book by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is set 10 years after “The Sick,” a viral pandemic that killed most of the population and led—somehow—to babies being born with part-human, part-animal characteristics. Part sci-fi, part fantasy, part mystery, Sweet Tooth offers viewers a post-apocalyptic dystopia unlike any other. In Fred Schepisi’s modern Cyrano de Bergerac retelling penned by and starring Steve Martin, Shelley Duvall plays café owner Dixie, Charlie/C.D.’s (Steve Martin) and Roxanne’s (Daryl Hannah) close friend, who shares wise advice and gossip with them. Incorporating the personable warmth she was known for in real life, Duvall shared such wonderful chemistry with her costars. Every scene shared between Martin evokes endless charm, as Dixie actively encourages C.D. I went with my son, my brother and a friend this week and we all loved it. I was a bit skeptical after the offputting trailers, but walked out of the theater all smiles. I don’t think it’s quite as good as Fury Road, but it adds a lot of lore and richness to the Mad Max universe and has some of the series’ best action scenes. Rick Riordan’s beloved young-adult fantasy book series consists of five novels, starting with “The Lightning Thief,” which follows Percy as he finds out his father is a Greek god, making him a demigod.

You can read my review here, and stream the Cillian Murphy-led film on Prime Video. Brit Bennett’s “The Vanishing Half” was one of the biggest books of 2020, and is now coming to the screen with Aziza Barnes set to write and produce the HBO adaptation. It tells the story of two identical twin sisters growing up in the Jim Crow South before escaping at 16 and pursuing divergent life paths. There have been no casting announcements for the highly-anticipated series yet. “The Sympathizer” joins a growing list of bestselling books to be adapted to shows and movies. Up next is Robinne Lee’s “The Idea of You,” whose film adaptation starring Anne Hathaway just premiered at SXSW to rave reviews. It’s never easy following up on a show as legendary as Breaking Bad, so people were understandably worried if Better Call Saul was necessary. Yet, once this prequel series came out, all sense of fear withered away. For six seasons, Better Call Saul dived deep into the earlier life of lawyer Saul Goodman, who was originally referred to as Jimmy McGill. With this show being an origin story for Saul, other Breaking Bad characters got a chance to appear. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has gone through many iterations since debuting in the 1980s, and Mutant Mayhem is already considered one of their best film adaptations. With comic-book-style animation, updated humor, and tons of incorporated characters, Mutant Mayhem reignited many people’s love for the heroes in a half shell. Mutant Mayhem focuses on the heroes as they emerge from the sewers to take on Superfly and his gang of mutants. Peacock’s new sword-and-sandal epic Those About to Die is set in Ancient Rome amid the world of gladiators. Director Roland Emmerich, whose films include Independence Day and The Patriot, helms the show, so you know the Colosseum is going to see some major action here. The 10-episode series stars Anthony Hopkins, Iwan Rheon, and Dimitri Leonidas; all episodes will drop on July 18. It’s the final season for Sweet Home, the monster-heavy K-drama that will have fans on edge about Hyun-su’s fate.

The bloody, gladiatorial competitions are happening as the politics and dynasties begin to explode. Benjamin develops iOS apps professionally and covers Apple news and rumors for 9to5Mac. Mariah Carey leads a holiday celebration spectacular, featuring original performances of a dozen Christmas classics. The special includes the debut performance the new holiday track ‘Oh Santa’, sung by Carey, Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. This beautiful short film follows the journey of a nature-loving astronaut who is stranded on a small, desolate, planet. The astronaut visibly blushes at the arrival of a friendly, pink, alien lifeform. In this brand new animated special, Charlie Brown looks to see how he can best make a positive impact on the environment. Starring Snoopy and all your favorite Peanuts characters, It’s The Small Things aired to help celebrate Earth Day 2022. A documentary spanning footage shot over four years of an elephant herd traveling across Africa. The film centers around the matriarch Athena but also pays attention to other animal species encountered along the way. Hala puts the spotlight on a teenager attempting to balance the innate freedoms of teenage life with her traditional Muslim upbringing. Justin Timberlake stars as Eddie Palmer, who has just completed a 12 year prison sentence. Palmer’s neighbor disappears, leaving him in the care of her 7 year old son Sam. As the pair develop a close bond, Palmer’s past comes back to haunt the relationship. The year of human quarantine allowed wildlife flourished in unexpected and profound ways and The Year Earth Changed explores 2020 from the perspective of the natural world. David Attenborough narrates this fascinating documentary film, featuring scenes such as the penguin takeover of Cape Town and the appearance of whales in Glacier Bay.

Please either allow for a ‘Default’ setting where the user can choose what loads on startup or put a search bar on the ‘Home’ page. Even the latter, quick searches mean fast results, and having to wait for a ‘Home’ page to load and cache content every time I start the app doesn’t allow for rapid results. Does Sausage Party, the raunchy and ridiculous 2016 animated film from Seth Rogen, really need its own 8-part television series? This is becoming something of a trend after the Ted series released not long ago. Honestly, I don’t have an answer to that yet but if I feel like watching something really crude and probably very silly, I’ll give it a shot and find out. If there’s a West Wing-shaped hole in your life, look no further than The Diplomat—a tense geopolitical thriller elevated beyond the norms of the genre by a superb central performance by The Americans’ Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, newly appointed US ambassador to the UK. Far from being an easy assignment in a friendly country, Kate’s role coincides with an attack on a British aircraft carrier, leaving her to defuse an international crisis before it escalates into full-blown war. It’s a job that might go easier if her own special relationship with husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) weren’t fraying, as his resentment at being demoted leads him to interfere in her efforts. One of Netflix’s biggest hits of 2023, The Diplomat has already been renewed for season two. The Fab Five are back for another round of life-changing makeovers in New Orleans. With heroes including a deaf football coach who needs to step up to support his students, a Kiss superfan committed to caring for his brother, and a former nun looking for love, there’s plenty to tug at the heart strings. With this season marking the last for design guru Bobby Berk, Queer Eye will doubtlessly be evolving when it returns for its already-confirmed ninth season, but for now, grab the tissues and prepare to ugly-happy-cry again. The 12-episode series follows the crew from interstellar cargo vessel Demeter 227, stranded on the uncharted world of Vesta with seemingly no escape. True to its name, WatchFree lets you enjoy a plethora of movies and series without any cost. Whether you’re into mainstream Hollywood films or indie classics, the site has something for everyone. It’s so engaging that you’ll want to clear your schedule before browsing.
